An adult student wants to play a Telemann Recorder Sonata; where to begin?
Wanting her to enjoy the music to the fullest I recalled a wonderful little book that I picked up in Germany many years ago: Seven Times Seven and One Minuet, by Telemann.  It is a book of instruction on how to play figured bass.
Telemann had a fantastic sense of humor, evident immediately upon digging, truly digging into any of his compositions.
The only people who find him dull are people who are stuck in the mire of beats and bar lines.  Poor souls.
