Sometimes, when I relate how the sound of television used to drive me nuts as a young child (when TV was still a novelty - I'm that old!)  people raise their eyebrows.  Really?
Now it seems there is a real revolt against the dulling down of real sound by digitization.  There is suddenly a new market for cassettes, for the old analog sound of vinyl.
I find even vinyl a distortion.
There is simply nothing like the aura that surrounds a live, close-up sound, whether or not it is part of a piece of music.
In fact, I think that a lot of musical structure exists so that we cannot miss a single close-up sound.  I think of moments in opera where the soprano's voice breaks and you know there is a human being inside of that costume and that well-trained voice.
