The idea of holding a note is, for many people, especially pianists, almost impossible to imagine in our multi-tasking-get-on-with-it universe.  But what if a long note were an implied question: what if the issue was not as much how long to hold the note, which implies passivity, but rather exactly when and exactly how to let go of it, as if it involves resistance, which is anything but passive?
