If you stick around piano studios you certainly don't get the impression that fragility has anything to do with the subject at hand: the tendency is to hear repetitive certainty (until the train wreck, of course) with a certain amount of muscular overkill.
Touch?   Seems not to figure in.
I once had to quit a teaching job because the school director couldn't stand listening to a little boy play softly.  "We can't have that;" he said, "it makes too great a demand on the parents." 
Paying attention:  too great a demand?
