Above All: The Ear

The quality of my playing has very much deepened as a result of the close-up listening on a regular basis of a small group of people, rarely the same people.  Rather than prepare a "big deal"recital once or twice a year, as I used to do, I have found that playing twice a month in my studio for a small number of people has done more to reveal the essence of the musical experience.
The ice is broken, shattered, actually.  The connection is made between all of us and each of us, as also between the composer and all assembled.
This is what I want when I go to hear music.  Nothing less.
