In today's New York Times was an obituary for a nurse, Kathryn Barnard, who was one of the first medical people to notice that all newborns needed skin to skin stimulation in order to thrive and develop - even preemies needed to be in rocking beds, not kept stationary.
It is a subject that means a lot to me, as I see the difference right away in the facial expressivity of children who have been smiled at, talked to, sung to.
Music, live music, not recorded (i.e., canned) stuff for newborns!
