Every time I teach Beethoven, Clementi, Haydn, Mozart sonatas to a student whom I have trained I am stunned at how much I learn from their untrammeled ears!   I look at the music; I know how to play the notes; I even know what they will sound like.
My students look at the music and hear the actual sound of the piano's resonance, not the identity of the sound.
Words cannot describe the difference.  Their hearing is real, immediate, powerful.  Mine falls easily into the category of same-old.
I dislike same-old as much as anyone out there.
