The beauty of one-on-one education is that, like parenting, it is at its best an open-ended experiment.  As I write that sentence I am aware that for many musicians one-on-one instruction is a way of insuring that your students will be clones of your way of playing.
I never found that an appealing model and stayed away from such teachers.
Now that I have been teaching for many years I am pleased to see such a vast range of gifts and skills among my former students, only a few of whom have gone into music and those not necessarily into piano playing.
