It used to bother me a lot when I went to concerts that I could not make verbal sense of what I had just heard.  Maybe I hadn't really heard it, whatever it was.  Or maybe I had no idea that just listening, without words necessarily involved, was okay.  Since I was a musician, albeit a young one, I was always expected to have something to say about the experience.
So much of the vocabulary that people use in talking about music is comparing this performance to some other.  Most of the time I find that I don't understand what just happened until some time has elapsed and I find myself haunted by a sound, an interval, a specific intonation, a tempo.  
Are there words to describe unforgettable experiences when they are still brand new?
