Into the Unknown

In just a little while I will perform informally a work that touches on every aspect of the piano sound that has puzzled me all my life.  It is my favorite kind of audience, ranging from some young people from out of town who have never attended a classical piano performance of any description and were worried about what to wear, and some extremely bright graduate students and newly-minted Ph.D.'s in Music Theory and Composition, plus some older friends, neighbors, fellow artists: a perfect mix to bring out the very best in what I care most about.
It is a work I have never heard anyone play, so I have no idea of how it "should" go, but I have been working on it intently since 1990, determined to figure it out.  I have the feeling it's between me and Robert Schumann.  Bless his heart for letting me in on the conversation.
