Back in the 1960's I read a book on music that entirely changed my life.  The author described and demonstrated that tones move themselves, that is, that in the ear of the listener they do, indeed, move.  The book: Sound and Symbol; the author, Viktor Zuckerkandl.  Every child, every adult amateur I have taught/listened to since that time has proved him right.  One girl, 8 or 9 at the time, even once said about a particular note: "It didn't want to go up!"  (My criterion for legitimacy is when a child says it is so.)
Listening to this Rameau clip you will hear tones moving themselves, not by design, but in the moment.  Were I to play the piece tomorrow it would come out differently.
